Tell a Friend!

Just Take the Bridge

Suppose one day on your way home from work you happened across a great big canyon between you and your destination. So you got out of your car and went to the edge of the canyon and looked all the way to the right, all the way to the left, and peered down into the canyon, and discovered that it was so deep that you could not even see the bottom. You then looked across the canyon and realized quickly there was absolutely no way you could get across on your own. You were just about to despair, when a friend approaches and says, "You know, I heard there is this bridge down yonder that crosses the canyon." You answer, "Really? Cool!" And follow your friend to the bridge.

Now, on the way across the bridge, you notice someone else has reached the canyon and looks like they are preparing to jump. Concerned, you go and say, "Hi, friend, what are you up to?"

They answer, "I'm preparing to fly across this canyon so I can go home. I called my mom and she told me all I have to do is try really hard and I will make it across."

Do you say to them:

A)Hey, Cool man, whatever floats your boat, doesn't really matter anyways.
B)Well, it would be easier if you took the bridge, but that will work too, I guess, if your mom said so.
C)Excellent. It doesn't really matter how you go about getting across the canyon, since the goal is the same, any method will do.
D)That's nice. Its not the right way for me, but its good that you're so willing to follow through on your beliefs. I personally believe that the bridge is the only way to get across this, but, can you explain to me your belief and flying technique so that I can gain a better understanding and appreciation of your way of crossing the canyon?
or:
E)Sir, have you ever heard of the Law of Gravity? I'm sorry, but there is simply no way you can cross this canyon on your own! Look, there is this bridge down the way here that is nice 'n sturdy and will take us both over in a jip. What do you say, I can show you the way right now if you'd like.

In such a situation, the absurdity of answers A, B, C, and D makes it fairly obvious which response we should give. Then why do so many of us choose to give one of those answers when dealing with people attempting to cross the great divide between them and God any way besides across the Bridge of Jesus Christ our Lord?

Verse to consider: "Jesus answered, 'I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.'" John 14:6

Prayer: Lord, I pray that the next time I meet someone trying to cross the Canyon between them and you on their own, that you would give me the courage to tell them the truth that the only way across the Canyon is the Bridge you provided on the Cross. In your name, Amen.
